      • Detours will be posted for all through traffic during the phased road closures.
      • Local and emergency access to homes and businesses will be maintained at all times.
      • Duration of residential driveway closures will be limited to two times in a two week period. Distance that residents must park during the drive closures will not be more than 200 feet.

ROAD CLOSURE NOTICE
The final phase of the Blue Ash/Hunt Road improvement project has begun, with this phase of the work affecting Hunt Road. The City appreciates everyone’s patience during the construction of this major road project.

Beginning Monday, July 6 through Friday, July 24, the project will require the complete closure of Hunt Road to through traffic between Floral Avenue and West Avenue. This closure is necessary to install concrete curbs, sidewalk and pavement. During this segment of the road closure, residents living in the Floral subdivision will have access via Blue Ash Road whereas access will no longer be available from Plainfield Road. Access will be permitted to residents living in the project area only unless unforseen changes occur in which case the City will notify the effected residents personally. Waste collection and postal service will not be effected.

During the road closure times, it is important for all through traffic to follow the designated detours utilizing Plainfield Road, Blue Ash Road, and Cooper Road. Motorists should be alert for detour information provided on message boards and signs.

BLUE ASH/HUNT ROAD IMPROVEMENT PROJECT

The total reconstruction of Blue Ash Road has been completed. This project will reconstruct a portion of Hunt Road from West Avenue east to the railroad tracks in early 2009. The Blue Ash City Council awarded the project to CJ & L Construction. This project is being partially financed via a no-interest loan granted to the City through the State Capital Improvement Program (SCIP).

The project is necessary to replace a deteriorating roadway and storm sewer system. In addition to the replacement of roadway, curbs, driveway aprons, portions of driveways and a majority of the sidewalks will also be replaced. Additionally, the contractor installed a 16" water main on Blue Ash Road to replace the 80 year old 12” main currently in operation.

The next phase of the project will require residents living in the project area on Hunt Road between West Avenue and Floral Avenue to park their vehicles on Conklin and West Avenues beginning Monday, July 6. This is necessary to install new concrete curb and sidewalk. In some cases, the curb may be lower than the existing roadway and the contractor may be able to plate the driveway for resident access. If your driveway is not plated, the contractor was unable to do so, and you will have to use a side street to park your vehicle. Please try to have your vehicle(s) out of the driveway by 6 AM on Monday, July 6. The goal is to remove the pavement the week of July 13 and have new pavement and full access the week of July 20. Residents who live in the Floral subdivision will be directed to enter and exit from the Blue Ash Road side.  Access will no longer be available from Plainfield Road to the Floral subdivision. If there is a situation where a resident will need access to a driveway based on special medical needs or other emergency situations, please contact the City Engineering Technician at 745-8578 to make special arrangements during regular office hours (Mon.-Fri. 8 AM - 5 PM), or Police Dispatch after hours at 745-8555.

GREATER CINCINNATI WATER WORKS WATER MAIN REPLACEMENTS

Greater Cincinnati Water Works (GCWW) will replace the old water main on Hunt Road between Plainfield Road and West Avenue. Additionally, they will replace all of the old water mains in the Home Acres Subdivision (a.k.a. Birdville). Work is projected to start in early summer. During construction, Hunt Road will be reduced to one lane with long delays for motorists. Cooper Road and Ronald Reagan Highway should be used as detours for all through traffic.

GREATER CINCINNATI WATER WORKS 36" WATER MAIN PROJECT

GCWW installed in 2007 a new 36” transmission water main down Blue Ash Road and on Cooper Road between Blue Ash Road and Kenned Road. All work on this portion of the 36” water main was completed prior to Memorial Day, including the rehabilitation of Cooper Road. The City of Blue Ash has completely replaced and reconstructed Blue Ash Road as part of the Blue Ash/Hunt Road Improvement Project as listed above.

The 36” water main project is scheduled to continue in early 2010, extending the water main down Cooper Road past the east City limit. This water main will eventually be extended to Montgomery and possibly to Mason to provide a reliable source of water for all cities in this area.

TRAFFIC SIGNAL UPGRADES

The City of Blue Ash is working to upgrade the traffic signals throughout the City from incandescent lights to LED (light emitting diode) lights. The LED lights use significantly less electricity, last longer between failures, provide brighter signals and support battery back-up systems at major intersections. Many intersections have been upgraded over the past few years and the following intersections will be completed in 2009:

      • Ronald Reagan Highway at North Access Road (between Kenwood & Blue Ash Roads)
      • Blue Ash Road at Ronald Reagan Highway North Access Road
      • Ronald Reagan Highway off-ramp at Hunt Road
